Heritage

Jagner, a town 50 km southwest of Agra, boasts a 1572 C.E. fort made of local red sandstone. Noteworthy features include the well-preserved Diwan-i-Am complex and the Gwal Baba Temple located beyond the fort. Nearby, a tank excavated during Akbar’s reign has silted up. Protected by the Indian government since 1916, the site falls under the care of the Archaeological Survey of India, Agra circle. The town’s geographical setting includes ridges of the upper Vindhyan ranges, with sandstone layers dominating the landscape.
